Book Haul: #Follow

So I went to the Goodwill in my town and found 2 books that sounded good to me. I also got this cool pillow from my aunt and thought that it would look good in the picture.

Now I’ve been wanting to read The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan for quite some time now. The other book is called Blood Fever by Veronica Wolff.

The Forest of Hands and Teeth’s blurb:

In Mary’s world there are simple truths. The Sisterhood always knows best. The Guardians will protect and serve. The Unconsecrated will never relent. And you must always mind the fence that surrounds the village; the fence that protects the village from the Forest of Hands and Teeth. But, slowly, Mary’s truths are failing her. She’s learning things she never wanted to know about the Sisterhood and its secrets, and the Guardians and their power, and about the Unconsecrated and their relentlessness. When the fence is breached and her world is thrown into chaos, she must choose between her village and her future—between the one she loves and the one who loves her. And she must face the truth about the Forest of Hands and Teeth. Could there be life outside a world surrounded by so much death?

Blood Fever’s Blurb:

It’s the start of the fall semester, and a new crop of Acari and Trainees has descended on the Isle of Night. Watcher training has intensified, and Drew has a new roommate named Mei-Ling. But Mei-Ling harbors a dangerous secret that drove the vampires to abduct her against her will. Drew knows she shouldn’t get involved, but she can’t seem to leave her roommate to fend for herself.

Luckily, Drew has other things on her mind—like vampire Carden. A blood bond to a brawny, eighteenth-century Scottish bad boy tends to preoccupy a girl. And though she’s still figuring out what this bond means, one thing has become clear: She craves him in a major way.

But then bodies start turning up on the island. All the evidence points to the existence of a rogue vampire, and the sinister vampire Alcántara is gunning for Carden, even though Drew has proof that Carden had nothing to do with the murders. Now she has to find the true killer—without endangering Carden, Mei-Ling, or herself…

APPARENTLY, Blood Fever is book 3, so I’ll have to find the first two books before I read it. Oh well. It was a good book haul. I hope you enjoyed my post and have a good afternoon!

EXCERPT

Pulling my two heavy textbooks for this class out of the stack too, I arrange everything nicely. Just as I am getting my brand new pencils ready, I am startled by a loud bang. My desk mate drops his books on the countertop and sits down, looking at me askance.
I startle to realize that it’s the blond Greek god I ran from only yesterday. Tall and broad-shouldered, he wears his black denim and dark blue tee shirt incredibly well. He knows it too, judging by his posture. He perches on his stool and crosses his arms, expectant. Perfectly unkempt sandy blond hair, dark brows spread wide over the darkest blue eyes I’ve ever seen, a patrician nose, two incredible cheekbones, and the most expressive lips…
This guy is fucking hot, excuse my French.
Which are currently smirking at me. I knew hot guys back home in Prineville. Mostly I avoided them, truth be told. But this guy is on another level. He is so dazzling that he could work in television… and bad tv just so happens to be my weakness.
Being around this guy is enough to make me rethink the bright yellow tee shirt dress I am wearing. I want more than anything to tug the hem down and smooth my hands over my black tights, but I don’t.
Instead I blush, fumbling to introduce myself. Sticking my hand straight out and tossing my messy blonde hair back, I try for an authoritative voice. “I’m Emily Danes.”
At the front of the classroom, the professor clears his throat, ready to start talking. My eyes dart to him, but then he reaches for his bunch of tissues again. Glancing back to my partner, I see him eye me up and down in a totally unsubtle way.
At last, he leans forward and shakes my hand. His skin against mine is hot. I bite my lip, refusing to let a little thing like instant animal attraction do me in.
“I’m Wolf,” he says, his voice low and gravelly. He looks me over once more. Then he arches a brow, his smirk deepening. “Did you find all of your panties last night?”
My cheeks instantly go the exact color of a ripe tomato. I lick my lips and frown. What am I supposed to say to that?

Small Book Haul

Alright, so I was a bit naughty and got some books when I was supposed to be looking for clothes for work. I couldn’t help myself though, because these two books just stood out to me.

The first one I got from The Dollar Tree for only a dollar.

Unravel: A Novel (Fairfax Book 1) by [Read, Calia]

Blurb:
One kiss can change everything.

One month ago I was admitted to a psych ward. Yesterday, Lachlan told me I’m losing my mind. But I know what I saw. Will you believe me?

Behind the walls of a mental hospital, Naomi Carradine feels her world breaking to pieces. She’s starting to believe all the voices questioning her sanity. Only visitors from the outside world keep her tethered to reality. But deep in her thoughts, Naomi is haunted by memories of a golden summer that twisted into a waking nightmare of obsessive love and fractured truths.

Just home from college, Naomi moves in with her best friend, Lana, the daughter of a Virginia senator. At a lavish party thrown by Lana’s father, Naomi meets a sexy stockbroker named Max and finds herself unable to resist his charms. One fiery kiss and she’s going back for more, beginning a terrifying descent. Having witnessed the unspeakable, Naomi has only one hope of escape: unraveling the devastating secrets of her past.

The second book I got was from Volunteers of America and I only paid .60 cents for it.

Blurb:

Raw, animal magnetism…

…is a big red flag to prim and proper office manager Jane Morgan. After a rough childhood with a mother who liked her men in prison-jumpsuit orange, Jane changed her name, her look and her taste for bad boys. So why is she lusting for William Chase with his tattoo-covered biceps and steel-toed boots? The man blows things up for a living!

She gives herself one explosive, fantasy-filled night with Chase.

The next day it’s back to plain Jane and safe men.

But when her beloved brother becomes a murder suspect, it’s Chase who comes to her rescue. And Jane discovers that a man who’s been around the block knows a thing or two about uncovering the truth….

So these two books couldn’t be more different from each other than pie and beer. Gross combination that I just came up with in my head, I know, but I just had to get these two books. I happened to get them in this order too. I hope you enjoy my little tid bit of sharing this with you. Have a good night!

Let’s Check Out Review: Girls of Paper and Fire by Natasha Ngan — The Little Contemporary Corner

I’m not normally a huge reader of fantasy but so far this year I’ve dug into Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyemi and now Girls of Paper and Fire by Nastasha Ngan – both of which I have loved! GOPAF was our Book Club pick for April and I truly adored it. I was unsure how I’d feel but […]

What I Look For in a Villain! — the orang-utan librarian- What We All Should Look For

Hello again! I’m back with one of my favourite topics… BAD GUYS! Specifically what I look for in a villain. Now, if you’re expecting a list like: tall, dark, handsome, brooding… prepare to be disappointed. What I look for in a villain is slightly more complex than the surface level stuff. I’m not going to […]

So, do you agree ? Should we all look for some of what she said? Or all of what she said? She makes some really good points.

Check Out Manga: Fruits Basket: Vol 1 – Review

I have read manga before, but it was not Fruits Basket, it was Sword Art Online and I loved it. I have yet to do a review for the volumes I have read.  I thought I would share this review because I always wanted to know what this series was about and now I know.

Now I have another manga series I need to read besides finishing reading SAO.  Check out the link, I think you will find the manga interesting.

It’s a bit of a learning curve…

There just comes a time in your life where you feel the need to read these type of books, so you do.

AND THEY ARE HELPFUL.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH READING THESE BOOKS THAT I AM ABOUT TO SHARE WITH YOU THAT I HAVE READ. IF YOU NEED TO READ THESE , SO BE IT.

They are quite good, actually.

Words cannot describe how HELPFUL these books are and have been for me.  Yes, I have had some issues and it is a bit of a learning curve. I am working on it though. I think that these two books are phenomenal and I loved reading the stories in Women Who Love Too Much and doing the exercises in Love Me, Don’t Leave Me.  This made me realize the red flags and see what was happening in my life with other people.  So have any of you read these books and learned some things? Or other books like these? You don’t have to share if you don’t want to.

Random Thought Of The Day… Parodies: Nerd Style 📚

Does anyone else ever think about making parodies of songs about nerdy things besides me?

Like about books? Or bookish things? It would be such fun!!!! 📖🎼🎵

I don’t have a YouTube channel or anything but I always redo lyrics for songs for some reason in my head in nerdy ways and was wondering if anyone else does….

Am I alone in this? 🤣 If I am that’s okay. 😛

I just thought this would be something interesting to talk about on here since I am sure everyone or almost everyone has heard the remake of Talk Dirty To Me by Jason Derulo. Which happens to be called Talk Nerdy To Me if I am correct.  Don’t quote me now. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Alright let me know if you do nerdy things like this too. I would like to know or if you want to keep this kind of nerdiness to yourself then you can do that too. 😉😄🤣😛🤗😆😁

I hope you enjoyed this post and have a good night. 👍
